UltuCup

What is the UltuCup made of?

The UltuCup is made from one simple ingredient - 100% premium healthcare grade silicone. The UltuCup is free from dyes, dioxins, BPA, phthalates, pesticides, chlorine and latex.

Where is the UltuCup made?

The UltuCup, starter guide, storage bag and packaging are 100% USA made - using the most sustainable options available.

USA Made – 100% premium healthcare grade silicone
USA Made – 100% US grown breathable virgin cotton storage bag
USA Made – Starter guide – printed on recycled paper with vegetable-based inks
USA Made – 100% recyclable packaging

What cup size should I choose?

The UltuCup is available in three sizes, Model 1, Model 2 and the Mini cup.

UltuCup Mini - is ideal for users with a lower cervix or those who feel that model 1 is too long.
Model 1 - is suited for users 29 years and under who have never delivered vaginally or by C-section.
Model 2 - is made for users 30 and older and/or for those who have delivered vaginally or by C-section.

See our Size Guide for additional information to consider when choosing a size.

Should you trim the stem?

UltuCup’s short solid stem is designed to be comfortable and easily cleaned. While you most likely will not mind the stem, you can trim it if you’d like. Do not alter the stem until you are positive that you will not need it. Don’t trim the stem shorter than ¼ inch (0.64 cm) and never trim the stem while wearing the cup. Please keep in mind that cutting off the entire stem will make removal more difficult.

How long will my UltuCup last?

Since the UltuCup is a personal hygiene product, our recommended guideline is to replace it once a year. Silicone is very durable, but depending on factors unique to each user, the lifespan of the cup varies. Inspect your cup regularly for signs of deterioration such as sticky or powdery film, discoloration, odor or if you experience irritation. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide when to replace the cup.

What is the quality like?

At UltuCup we pride ourselves on creating premium products designed with safe and simple ingredients. We believe every person has a right to know what is in their menstrual care products. That is why our menstrual cup is made from 100% premium healthcare grade silicone at an ISO certified facility. We are FDA-registered with your health and well-being in mind.

If I was pregnant but had a C-section, would you still recommend the larger size?

Great question! Our sizing recommendations are based on the industry standard and we would recommend purchasing a Model 2 for individuals who have delivered vaginally or by C-section. We do understand that everyone’s anatomy is different and that our sizing guide may not reflect your individual needs. If you find the Model 2 UltuCup does not work for you please reach out to our Consumer Care Team at [email protected] for support.

Can I use the cup if I am a virgin?

UltuCup is ideal for menstruating people of all ages, shapes and experience levels. In fact, you can start using a menstrual cup as soon as you get your period. Although there is no age limit; it does however require that you are comfortable with your body and period. You might need to practice a bit more in the beginning. While virginity is not an obstacle, the vaginal muscles are tighter and insertion can be a challenge until your body has adapted to accommodate the cup. Individuals with intact hymens should be aware that inserting the cup may rupture the hymen. By medical standards, virginity is not defined by the state of the hymen and an individual remains a virgin until the participation in sexual intercourse. We are here to help you with your menstrual care experience, if you have any questions please feel free to contact our Consumer Care Team at [email protected].

How soft is the cup?

The UltuCup is made of 100% healthcare grade silicone, making it a soft and flexible period care option. When inserted correctly, UltuCup’s flexible design opens gently against your vaginal walls and can’t be felt at all.

Is the UltuCup Mini better for a beginner?

The UltuCup Mini is designed for individuals with a lower cervix or those who feel that Model 1 is too long. UltuCup Mini has the same rim diameter as the Model 1 but is shorter in height. We recommend the Model 1 for beginners, but some users may find the Mini cup size to be preferable. If you are unsure which size to buy, please contact our Consumer Care Team - we would love to help you out.

Insertion and Positioning

How easy is it to insert the cup?

Learning how to use your cup can take some time and practice. Like learning how to use contact lenses, it might seem daunting at first, but before you know it, using your UltuCup will become effortless and natural.

When learning to use the UltuCup, we recommend practicing using both fold methods to see which one works best for you. All bodies are different and what may work smoothly for one user, may not work as well for another.

We are here to help you with your menstrual care experience, if you have any questions please feel free to contact our Consumer Care Team at [email protected].

Is my UltuCup positioned correctly?

When inserted properly, your UltuCup should be sensation-free and leak-free. If you are experiencing leakage or sensation while wearing your cup, adjust your insertion and placement methods to find what works with your body. All bodies are different and what may work for one user, may not work for another.

How does it stay in?

UltuCup sits comfortably inside your vagina and stays in place by opening gently to your vaginal walls. When inserted correctly, the cup is sensation free

Can I use lubricants?

We do not recommend the use of lubricants as over time they can deteriorate your cup. We suggest using water to facilitate insertion.

Spotting may also be due to blood left in the vagina in between the act of removing your cup and reinsertion. Be sure to wipe your labia after insertion to remove any excess blood.

Do you take it out every time you have to urinate?

It is important to remember that a menstrual cup is inserted into your vagina, not your urethra. The cup will neither catch, nor block your urinary flow, but it is possible for menstrual cups to apply pressure to the bladder or urethra. If you are experiencing any discomfort or have more questions, please feel free to contact our Consumer Care Team at [email protected].

Leaks and spotting

Leaking is typically due to the cup not creating a proper seal or being positioned incorrectly. Unlike tampons, the UltuCup sits low in the base of the vaginal canal. If it is placed too high, it may leak or cause discomfort. Using a different fold or placement height can ensure that your cup is inserted properly and sealing fully.

Help! I cannot insert my cup

Learning how to insert and remove your cup may take some practice and time. If you cannot insert your cup on the first try, take a deep breath and relax. Our pelvic muscles get tense just like we do, this can make insertion much more difficult.

Consider using a different folding method or switching up the position in which you are inserting the cup. If you are still having difficulties, please contact our consumer care team.

Removal not going smoothly?

To successfully remove your cup, releasing the seal is key. Reach for the stem and pull gently horizontally until you can firmly pinch the base of the cup. Squeeze the cup gently as this will release the seal and guide the cup outside your body.

If you cannot reach the stem or are unable to remove the cup easily, take a deep breath and relax. Our pelvic muscles get tense just like we do, and this can make removal much more difficult.

In a comfortable position, either standing, sitting on the toilet, or squatting with your buttocks resting on your heels, bear down in a series of gentle downward pushes with your abdominal/pelvic floor muscles (as if you are having a bowel movement). This will help your cup to naturally move downwards. If you are still having difficulties, please contact our consumer care team.
